Les parties en relief, laissent apparaître à la loupe l’âme en cuivre de ce jeton. Le flan est large et régulier et les reliefs sont très nets

LYONNAIS - ALDERMANS OF LYON - BARTHÉLEMY DARESTE
These tokens were made for the Consulate of the city of Lyon and they were intended to be distributed to officers, protectors and many others. It was an honorary testimony as much as a remuneration. For the aldermen, it was a mark of honor, a reminder of their office and the opportunity to have their coat of arms represented. They were distributed by purses and also made it possible to enrich the family silverware of the great lords. As for the secondary officers, they often preferred to receive their remuneration in cash.
