Commentary
Ce jeton est frappé après le 26 août 1742, date à laquelle Pierre Guérin est créé ministre d’État. Les armes de Pierre V Guérin portent d’or à un arbre de sinople, au chef de gueules chargé d’une étoile d’or cotoyée de deux besants du même. Pierre Guérin de Tencin est né à Grenoble le 16 août 1679 d’Antoine Guérin de Tencin, conseiller puis président à mortier au Parlement de Grenoble et de Louise de Buffévent. Oratorien, il est nommé conclaviste du cardinal Le Camus, en novembre 1700, Grand vicaire de Sens en 1705, chargé des affaires de France auprès du Saint-Siège en 1721, archevêque d’Embrun en 1724, cardinal en 1739 puis archevêque de Lyon le 11 novembre 1740, mort en charge le 2 mars 1758.

LYONNAIS - ARCHBISHOPS OF LYON
Christianity was established in Lyon around the middle of the 2nd century by St Pothin, who came from the East. The Lyons Church suffered in 177 from the persecution of Marc Aurèle with the martyrs of Pothin, Blandine and their companions. The city nevertheless remains the center of the spread of Christianity in Gaul and thus becomes the seat of the primate of Gaul. In the 16th century, the spread of the Reformation affected the Lyonnais, near Geneva. The Protestants made themselves masters of the city in 1562-1563 but the Catholic reaction was bloody during Saint-Barthélemy.
