Obverse

Obverse description : Écu ovale aux armes de Claude Bertaud posé sur un cartouche ornementé avec mascaron, timbré d’un casque taré de face, orné de lambrequins et ayant pour cimier trois plumes.

Reverse

Reverse description : Écusson ovale aux armes de la Ville, placé sur un cartouche, soutenu par les figures allégoriques debout du Rhône et de la Saône laissant échapper l’eau de leurs urnes, le tout sur une console enguirlandée.

Commentary

Pour ce personnage, nous pouvons déterminer après un examen attentif trois coins de revers, tous associés au même coin de droit.
Exemplaire avec le coin de droit présentant une légère cassure à trois heures au-dessus de la boucle du ruban et le coin de revers n° 3 avec une boucle sous le menton du mascaron de la console (Tricou XXIX). Les armes de Claude Bertaud portent d’azur au lion d’or à la fasce brochante de gueules chargée de trois étoiles d’or. Claude Bertaud, né en 1681, est le fils de Paul, voyer de la ville entre 1676 et 1708 et de Louise Balley.
Il est voyer de la ville entre 1708 et 1748 et ingénieur et intendant des fortifications de Lyonnais et Bresse. Il reçoit à plusieurs reprises, comme voyer, des jetons offerts par le Consulat.
For this character, we can determine after careful examination three reverse dies, all associated with the same obverse corner. Example with the obverse corner presenting a slight break at three o'clock above the loop of the ribbon and the reverse die n° 3 with a loop under the chin of the mascaron of the console (Tricou XXIX). The arms of Claude Bertaud are azure with a golden lion with a gules fess debruising charged with three golden stars. Claude Bertaud, born in 1681, is the son of Paul, city surveyor between 1676 and 1708 and of Louise Balley. He was city surveyor between 1708 and 1748 and engineer and intendant of the fortifications of Lyonnais and Bresse. He received on several occasions, as surveyor, tokens offered by the Consulate
