Obverse description : Écu aux armes de Lyon tourelé et entouré d’une guirlande composite de fleurs et fruits.

Reverse legend : * LES DISTANCES SONT GRANDES L'UNION LES EFFACE.

Reverse description : Globe terrestre aux continents dessinés, portant une bande équatoriale marquée THE WORLD, surmonté d'une colombe de la Paix et entouré d'une couronne de laurier.

Commentary

Jeton d’origine avec le poinçon main. Ce cercle, basé à Lyon, réunissait des membres cooptés sur le modèle des clubs anglais. Citons Pierre Larousse "Les cercles sont des réunions aristocratiques de gens qui s'ennuient en famille et veulent sortir sans rencontrer le peuple dont tous les lieux publics sont aujourd'hui encombrés”. Il pourrait s’agir d’un cercle de jeux, un cercle de jeux du même nom existait ainsi à Paris.
