Commentary

10th circulating commemorative 2 Euro coin from Luxembourg. The correct name of the 2011 commemorative 2 Euro coin is the “50th anniversary of the designation of his son Jean as “Lieutenant-Representative” by Grand Duchess Charlotte”. The eldest son of Grand Duchess Charlotte, Jean of Luxembourg was appointed Lieutenant-Representative by her on 28 April 1961. He succeeded his mother after her abdication in 1964 and thus became the eighth Grand Duke of Luxembourg. In October 2000, he abdicated in favor of his eldest son, who became Grand Duke Henri. The 2011 commemorative 2 Euro coin from Luxembourg therefore features the effigies of the last three sovereigns to have reigned.
