Obverse description : Tête laurée de Lucius Vérus à gauche.
Obverse translation : “Lucius Aurelius Verus Augustus Armeniacus Imperator iterum Tribunicia Potestate quartum Consul iterum”, (Lucius Aurèle Verus auguste arméniaque, revêtu de la deuxième acclamation impériale, de la quatrième puissance tribunicienne, consul pour la seconde fois).

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Marc Aurèle et Lucius Vérus debout face à face, couronnés par une victoire ; ils tiennent chacun une haste et posent le pied sur un dieu fleuve ; au centre, un captif assis de face.
Commentary
Ce type correspond au Gnecchi 34 qui recensait à l’époque trois exemplaires, l’un à Paris, le second à Vienne et le dernier de sa propre collection. Type exceptionnel, forcément rare et recherché !.

Son of Aelius, Lucius Verus, born in 130, was adopted at the same time as Marcus Aurelius by Antoninus at the express request of the dying Hadrian. During the reign of his adoptive father, he remained in the shadows and did not even receive the title of Caesar. After Antoninus' death, his half-brother immediately shared power with him, except for the titles of "Pontifex Maximus" (Grand Pontiff) and "Pater Patriæ" (Father of the Fatherland). Lucius Verus led a brilliant campaign in Armenia between 163 and 165, then against the Parthians. He married Lucille in 164 and died in February 169Lucius Aurelius Verus.
