Commentary

Sur ce bronze, Lucille est présentée comme la fille d’Antonin. Il faut bien sûr comprendre qu’il s’agit en fait de Marc Aurèle.
On this bronze, Lucille is presented as the daughter of Antoninus. We must of course understand that it is in fact Marcus Aurelius

Historical background

LUCILLA

(+182)

Augusta

Born in 149, Lucille was married by her father to Lucius Vérus in 164. She may have received the title of Augusta in 161. After the death of her husband in 169, she married Pompeianus, an old senator, friend of Marcus Aurelius. When Commodus succeeds his father, he honors his sister, but Lucille plots against him. She was exiled to Capri, then executed in 182.
