Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et irrégulier. Très beau portrait de Lucille. Joli revers de style fin, mais légende pratiquement inexistante. Belle patine marron foncé et rouge, granuleuse

Obverse description : Buste drapé de Lucille à droite avec un petit chignon ramené derrière la tête (L).

Obverse translation : “Lucilla Augusta”, (À Lucille augusta).

Reverse legend : VENVS GENETRIX/ S|C.

Reverse description : Vénus drapée assise à gauche, tenant une pomme de la main droite tendue et le coude appuyé sur son siège ; Cupidon à ses pieds.

Reverse translation : “Venus”, (Vénus).

Commentary

Poids léger. Ce type de sesterce avec la titulature courte de Lucille semble beaucoup plus rare. Il a été frappé à la fin du règne.

Augusta

Born in 149, Lucille was married by her father to Lucius Vérus in 164. She may have received the title of Augusta in 161. After the death of her husband in 169, she married Pompeianus, an old senator, friend of Marcus Aurelius. When Commodus succeeds his father, he honors his sister, but Lucille plots against him. She was exiled to Capri, then executed in 182.
