Exemplaire à l’usure régulière avec une patine vert noir. Frappe molle au revers, mais très bel exemplaire pour ce type, souvent mal frappé et mal conservé

Commentary

Sur cet exemplaire, le nom du magistrat est placé derrière Apollon. Les seuls exemplaires retrouvés sont ceux du musée de Naples (S 5161-5162).

LUCANIA - THOURIOI

(268-194 BC)

Thurium, the new Sybaris, was founded in 443 BC on the site of the ancient Sybaris, destroyed in 510 BC by the Crotoniates. It was a Pan-Hellenic Athenian colony, initially populated by Messenians, driven out by the Spartans. Its silver coinage was very important. It was refounded in 194 BC under the name of Copia by the Romans.
