Commentary

Type très particulier avec un carré creux oblong orné de deux globules. Le poids est trop léger pour que nous soyons en présence d’un triobole (poids théorique 1,33 g). La diobole n’est pas signalée pour ce type de monnayage.

Sybaris, an Achaean colony was founded around 720 BC. The luxury of the sybarites was proverbial. It was the most powerful city in Magna Graecia. It was destroyed by the Crotoniates in 510 BC. The survivors found refuge in Poseidonia or Laüs which they founded.
