Obverse description : Couple âgé, vêtu à l’antique, assis sur un banc contre le tronc d’un arbre. Ils contemplent la campagne à gauche. L’époux s’appuie sur une longue canne et tient son épouse par la taille.
En bas à gauche, signature : RENE BAUDICHON.

Reverse legend : NOCES D’OR / - / LEON UNGEMACH- / ELISABETH HIMLY / 12 AOUT / 1875-1925.
Reverse description : Enfant nu, de dos, cueille une pomme sur un arbre dont le tronc s’entrecroise à un autre. Signature monogramme à gauche. Légende en 5 lignes dans le champ.

Cet exemplaire a été gravé pour les noces d’or de Léon Ungemach (1844-1928) et Elisabeth Himly (1850-?). Léon Ungemach a été en charge à 21 ans la direction du commerce qui devint une maison en gros de denrées alimentaires, la Société Alsacienne d’Alimentation. Il était précurseur et novateur en matière de politique sociale.

LOVE AND MARRIAGE
It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
