Frappe médaille. Ce jeton de fiançailles ne fut pas suivi de jetons de mariage en raison des événements politiques qui poussèrent la France à renvoyer l’Infante et à marier le roi avec Marie Leszczinska.
Medal strike. This engagement token was not followed by marriage tokens due to the political events that prompted France to dismiss the Infanta and marry the king to Marie Leszczinska.

Historical background

LOUIS XV and MARIANA-VICTORIA INFANTA OF SPAIN

The regent had decided to betroth his little cousin to Marie Anne Victoire (1718-1781), the daughter of Philip V of Spain (1683-1746) and his second wife Elisabeth Farnese (1692-1766). The young infanta was eight years younger than the King. The children were in fact betrothed in 1723. After the death of the regent, the engagement was broken. Marie-Anne will marry in 1732 Joseph de Bragance (1714-1777), future Joseph I, king of Portugal (1750-1777). As for Louis XV, he married Marie Leszczynska (1703-1768), daughter of Stanislas I, deposed king of Poland.
