Coments on the condition:
Ce demi-écu est frappé sur un flan légèrement irrégulier et présente des faiblesses de frappe à 7 heures au revers ayant provoqué des faiblesses de frappe au droit. Exemplaire recouvert d’une jolie patine grise de médaillier. Hormis les faiblesses de frappe les reliefs sont nets. Cassure de carré monétaire sur le torse du roi

Obverse description : Buste de Louis XV à gauche, la tête nue, le cou cravaté, portant le cordon et la croix de l'ordre du Saint-Esprit sur une veste brodée ; (Mm) sous le buste.
Obverse translation : (Louis XV, par la grâce de Dieu, roi de France et de Navarre).

Reverse description : Écu de France ovale, couronné entre deux branches d'olivier.

Commentary
Monnaie publiée dans le Bulletin numismatique n° 149 : Monnaie signalée mais non retrouvée dans les différentes éditions du Répertoire de Frédéric Droulers - un demi-écu dit « aux branches d'olivier » de Louis XV, frappé en 1739 à Nantes (T). D'après cet auteur, 75 662 demi-écus auraient été frappés en 1739 à Nantes, dont « 10 200 environ à la fleur de lys renversée de Chalumeau et 64 750 environ à la tour de le Blond ». L'exemplaire que nous présentons présente une tour avant le millésime et a donc été frappé sous le directeur Jacques Mathieu Le Blond (1739-1752). D'après nos recherches aux archives nationales, ce ne sont pas 64 750 demi-écus qui ont été frappés sous son exercice, mais 13 584 exemplaires, pour un poids de 815 marcs 7 onces 11 deniers (199,72 kg). 27 exemplaires ont été mis en boîte. Ces demi-écus avec une tour furent mis en circulation suite à cinq délivrances, entre le 27 juin et le 31 décembre 1739.
