A Lens, l’armée française, sous le commandement du Grand Condé, faisait face au nouveau des Pays-Bas, l’archiduc Léopold. Pour les Espagnols, cette bataille fut ne déroute complète. Ils avaient des centaines de morts, perdirent 120 canons et presque tous leurs étendards.
