Commentary
This coin type is particularly rare and absent from many collections. Furthermore, this coin lacks the fleur-de-lis in its legends, a feature different from that of the mint master used around 1467. We are dealing with a half-écu d'or minted under the master Jean Vacque. Three of his accounts are preserved under the reference AN, Z1b 836 and cover the period from 1459 to 1464. The minting of half-écus is attested in his third account. There was only one issue of approximately 400 half-écus between January 25 and February 21, 1464, with only two examples boxed.
