Commentary
The circus tradition in Amiens dates back to 1845. At that time, a temporary wooden building was erected each year for the Saint-Jean Fair, which was then dismantled. The Fair was held on the former Longueville bastion, which the dismantling of the fortifications allowed for its transformation into an esplanade.
