Étienne de Bar succeeded Théodgère whose dates are not well known (around 1115-1120). Etienne's episcopate was the longest of the 12th century and one of the longest in the history of Metz. His nephew, Thierry III de Bar, who was not in orders, succeeded him in 1163.
