Commentary
Par la croix de Jérusalem aussi bien que par la légende tirée du Magnificat, Charles III veut glorifier et justifier son activité contre les protestants : en 1572, il interdit la pratique de la religion réformée et, en 1585, il expulse tous les protestants de son duché. Sous son règne, Nancy est d'ailleurs le quartier général des ligueurs.
Through the Jerusalem cross as well as through the legend taken from the Magnificat, Charles III wanted to glorify and justify his activity against the Protestants: in 1572, he banned the practice of the Reformed religion and, in 1585, he expelled all Protestants from his duchy. During his reign, Nancy was also the headquarters of the Leaguers.
