Commentary

Ce millésime n’est pas répertorié par Feuardent. La date est hypothétique mais dans la série on ne voit pas d’autre option que 1575 pour jeton au 5 en fin de légende.
Les trois alérions portés au revers trouvent une justification ancienne.
A la fin du Moyen-Age, on feignait de croire que les ducs de Lorraine descendaient d'un frère de Godefroy de Bouillon, Guillaume. Une légende voulait que Godefroy, après avoir conquis Jérusalem, vit trois alérions et les perça tous les trois d'un seul trait de son arc.
This vintage is not listed by Feuardent. The date is hypothetical, but in the series we see no other option than 1575 for the token at the 5 at the end of the legend. The three alerions worn on the reverse have an ancient justification. At the end of the Middle Ages, it was pretended to believe that the Dukes of Lorraine were descended from a brother of Godfrey of Bouillon, William. Legend has it that Godfrey, after conquering Jerusalem, saw three alerions and pierced all three with a single shot from his bow.
