Historical background

LORRAINE - BISHOPRIC OF TOUL - JEAN D'ARZILLIÈRES

(1310-1320)

Jean d'Arzillières, bishop of Toul, very quickly came into conflict with the bishop of Metz from the start of his episcopate in 1309. Jean d'Arzillières succeeded Eudes de Colonna (1307-1309) and was followed by Amédée de Savoy (1320-1330). The right to mint coins in Liverdun dates from 1168, given by Frédéric Barberousse. Jean d'Arzillières copies the baudequins of Jean II d'Avesnes, the spadins of Ferri IV, the penny of Renaud de Bar, bishop of Metz, finally the esterlin of Jean de Brabant.
