Historical background

LORRAINE - BISHOPRIC OF METZ - THIERRY IV DE LORRAINE (58th bishop)

(1173-1179)

The episcopate of Thierry IV is inserted between those of Frédéric Ier de Pluvoise (1171-1173) and Bertram (1180-1212). Thierry IV was the 58th bishop of Metz where his money was minted. Some types of this episcopate have been wrongly attributed to Conrad de Scharfeneck (1212-1225).
