Historical background

LORRAINE - BISHOPRIC OF METZ - RENAUD DE BAR (69th bishop)

(1302-1316)

Renaud de Bar came into conflict from 1308 with Thibaut II of Lorraine. The bishop was beaten at Frouard where the counts of Bar, Édouard (1302-1337), and Salm were taken prisoner. The episcopate of Renaud de Bar is inserted between that of Gérard de Rhélanges (1297-1302) and Henri (1316-1325).
