Flan ovale et un peu court, avec une frappe centrée des deux côtés. Fine patine grise avec des zones plus sombres et de légères concrétions au revers

Cette drachme provient de la collection personnelle de G. Savès et du trésor de Béziers découvert en 1871 (acquise parmi les 37 monnaies de la collection Charra - cf. Savès page 97)

Obverse description : Tête à gauche, avec une chevelure à épi sur le front se terminant par une S à l’envers ; oreille et collier de perles.

Reverse

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Reverse description : Croix bouletée au centre, formée de quatre cantons, chacun ornés d’une lunule ; une oreille au 3e canton.

Commentary

Cette rare drachme semble issue des mêmes coins que la monnaie S. 327 indiquée être le BN. 2963.

This people who occupied most of the departments of Aude and Hérault is mentioned neither by Ptolemy, nor by Strabo, nor by Caesar. Their coinage is known to us only by the treasures of Béziers (Hérault) discovered in 1871 and which contained between 750 and 800 coins of Languedoc style as well as that of Moussan in the Aude, discovered in 1967 and which contained 28 drachmas of style " Languedocian".
