Exemplaire sur un flan large et complet, très légèrement taché au droit. Légères stries d'ajustage au niveau de la légende du revers. Le carré de droit ayant frappé cette monnaie présentait une fracture sous le I de LEODIENSIS

LIEGE - EPISCOPAL PRINCIPALITY OF LIEGE - VACANT CHAIR

(1688)

On June 5, 1688, at the end of the episcopate of Maximilian Henry of Bavaria (1650-1688), the chapter ordered the minting of coins bearing the effigy of Saint Lambert, patron saint of the city. This is the first time that the city of Liège has struck for a holiday period. Minting ceased in October 1688, once Bishop Jean-Louis d'Elderen was elected (1688-1694). This practice of striking during the holiday period became widespread thereafter (1694, 1744, 1763, 1771, 1784 and 1792).
