Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Licinius II à gauche, vu de trois quarts en avant, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite, et un sceptre transversal de la main gauche tendue (ancus) (I*8).
Obverse translation : “Licinius Iunior Nobilissimus Caesar”, (Licinius le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse legend : VIRTVS - EXERCIT / VOT/XX/ ST .
Reverse description : Étendard avec deux captifs assis dos à dos ; dans le champ à gauche, un chrisme.
Reverse translation : “Virtus Exerciti/ Vota/ vicennalia”, (La Virilité de l’Armée/ Vœux pour le vingtième anniversaire de règne).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse décorée et cloutée ornée d’une tête de Méduse. Épaulière cloutée. Chrisme au revers dans le champ à gauche.

Caesar

Licinius II, son of Licinius I and Constantia, nephew of Constantine I, was raised to the caesarat on March 1, 317, at the same time as his cousins Crispus and Constantine II. After his father's defeat in 324, he survives, but suffocates to death two years later.
