Exemplaire sur un flan large et épais bien centré des deux côtés. Magnifique tête de Licinius Ier. Revers de haut relief. Patine marron clair superficielle. Conserve la plus grande partie de son coupant d’origine

Reverse legend : IOVI CONSER-VATORI AVGG/ (COURONNE)/-|H/(Z)/N// ALE.
Reverse description : Jupiter debout à gauche, lauré, la chlamyde sur l'épaule gauche, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, un aigle debout à gauche, tournant la tête à droite, tenant dans son bec une couronne ; en haut dans le champ à droite, une couronne.
Reverse translation : “Iovi Conservatori Augustorum”, (À Jupiter protecteur des augustes).

Commentary


Poids très lourd. Avec son argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Au revers, la lettre d’officine H (8e) est regravée sur un Z (7e) !.
Very heavy weight. With its surface silver plating. Type 3 ribbons with rounded ends. On the reverse, the pharmacy letter H (8th) is re-engraved on a Z (7th)!

LICINIUS I

(11/11/308-09/324)

Licinius I was proclaimed august directly following the conference of Carnuntum, on November 11, 308. In 313, after the rescript of Milan, he married Constantine's half-sister, Constantia. In 316 a first war took place between Licinius and Constantine. It ends with the death of Valens and the signing of a peace between the two augusts. On April 1, 317, three Caesars were created: Crispus, Constantine II and Licinius II. A second war broke out between Constantine and Licinius in 321. It ended with the decisive defeat of Chrysopolis in 324 and the deposition of Licinius, exiled to Thessalonica before being executed the following year..
