Reverse legend : SOLI IN-VI-CTO COMITI/ T/*|F// SARL.
Reverse description : Sol radié, nu, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, debout à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. P. Ferrando n’a recensé qu’un exemplaire et A.-m. Schmitt-Cadet deux, tous en musée. C’est le premier exemplaire proposé à la vente.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with pelleted ends. Fine pteryges under the paludamentum. P. Ferrando only identified one example and A.-m. Schmitt-Cadet two, all in museum. This is the first example offered for sale

Historical background


LICINIUS I

(11/11/308-09/324)

Licinius I was proclaimed august directly following the conference of Carnuntum, on November 11, 308. In 313, after the rescript of Milan, he married Constantine's half-sister, Constantia. In 316 a first war took place between Licinius and Constantine. It ends with the death of Valens and the signing of a peace between the two augusts. On April 1, 317, three Caesars were created: Crispus, Constantine II and Licinius II. A second war broke out between Constantine and Licinius in 321. It ended with the decisive defeat of Chrysopolis in 324 and the deposition of Licinius, exiled to Thessalonica before being executed the following year..
