Exemplaire sur un fan large mais avec une frappe défectueuse, trèflée au revers et avec une faiblesse de frappe sur l’arrière de la tête au droit. Quelques petits coups en bord de flan

Reverse description : Victoire stylisée debout à gauche, drapée, les ailes déployées, tenant une longue croix de la main droite.

Commentary

Une sorte de N est gravée en creux derrière la tête au droit. Ce tremissis ou triens est directement copié sur le monnayage officiel de Libius Sévérus. Pour J. P. C. Kent, l’émission serait posthume et serait frappée entre 461 et 470. Ces monnaies d’or solidi et triens auraient été frappés à l’instigation des Wisigoths qui occupaient le sud de la France, en Aquitaine..

Libius Severus succeeded Majorian and was proclaimed emperor at the instigation of Ricimer on November 19, 461. The reality of power was in fact in the hands of Ricimer. Libius Sévérus disappears from the political scene four years later, perhaps liquidated by his boss. The West will go almost two years without a titular emperor.
