Bel exemplaire avec une patine verte. Légende dont il ne manque que l’M au droit. Traces des penons de coulée du flan bien visibles

Obverse legend : [M]ATVGIINOS.
Obverse description : Buste à gauche, tête casquée avec un cimier, torque au cou. Légende devant le visage.
Reverse
Reverse legend : MA[TVGIINOS].
Reverse description : Cheval au galop à gauche, un oiseau posé sur le dos. Annelet inscrit dans un cercle perlé sous le cheval avec un poisson au-dessous. Légende au-dessus de l'oiseau.
Commentary
Si ce type de bronze est très rare, cet exemplaire est particulièrement bien net au niveau de la légende du droit ! L'espèce d'animal décrit comme étant un poisson sous le cheval est rarement bien venu, mais ce qu'on peut en deviner n'est pas sans rappeler celui qui se trouve sous le cheval du denier SOLIMA/COLIMA.

The Leuques are mentioned only once in the Gallic Wars. Their neighbors were the Médiomatriques, the Lingons and the Séquanes. The Leuques as well as the Séquanes and the Lingones provided Caesar with wheat when the Roman army stopped at Vesontio (Besançon) to refuel before facing the Germans of Ariovistus (58 BC).
