Commentary

Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Lélien reste l’empereur gaulois le plus rare hormis bien sûr les deux antoniniens de Domitianus.
Heavyweight. Type 3 ribbons. Thin pteryges under the paludamentum. Lelianus remains the rarest Gallic emperor, aside of course from Domitianus's two Antoniniani.

Historical background

LAELIANUS

(03-06/269)

Lélien, probably governor of Lower Germania, revolts against Postumus with the help of the XXX legion stationed in Castra Vetera (Xanten). He took refuge in Cologne, where Postum came to besiege him. Lélien is defeated and assassinated. Postumus, having refused the sack of the city to his victorious troops, finds death in his turn.
