Commentary

Le bec-à-corbin était une hallebarde permettant non seulement de pointer l'ennemi mais encore de l'agripper. Une compagnie des gendarmes du roi était équipée de ces hallebardes. Le revers fait allusion à la défaite des anglais devant La Rochelle, siège où d'Andilly accompagna le roi.
The bec-à-corbin was a halberd that not only allowed one to point at the enemy but also to grab them. A company of the king's gendarmes was equipped with these halberds. The reverse alludes to the defeat of the English at La Rochelle, a siege to which d'Andilly accompanied the king.
