Historical background

LANGUEDOC - COUNTY OF TOULOUSE - PONS Coinage as a relative of Henry I of France

(1037-1060)

Duplessy confirms the idea that Pons is indeed a relative of Henry I who was the second son of Robert II the Pious and Constance of Provence. He was associated with the throne after the death of his brother Hugh. Henry had to fight against his brother Robert, to whom he eventually subjugated Burgundy in 1032. Henry I died in 1060, leaving a minor son, Philip I, under the regency of Anne of Kiev. We do not know the link that united Henry I to Pons.
