Exemplaire sur un grand flan irrégulier, parfaitement centré des dex côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Très beau portrait de Justinien pour cette première année de frappe. joli revers de haut relief servi par une très belle patine verte

Obverse description : Buste casqué, diadémé et cuirassé de Justinien Ier de face avec pendilia, tenant de la main droite un globe crucigère et de la gauche un bouclier (N1'a) ; diadème perlé ; dans le champ à droite, une croix.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Iustinianus Perpetuus Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Justinien perpétuel auguste).

Poids léger. Pendilia aux extrémités bouletées. Bouclier orné d’un cavalier terrassant un guerrier au sol.

Justinian succeeded his uncle Justin in 527 after a co-regency from April 4 to August 1, 527. He reigned with Empress Theodora. The construction of Hagia Sophia was completed under his reign, which marks the height of the Byzantine conquests. Carthage as well as Africa and part of Numidia were reconquered from the Vandals thanks to General Bélisaire. After a century of Vandal domination, Romanism once again reigned over the Mediterranean.
