Ce prutah frappé sous administration romaine par les procurateurs de Judée, en l’occurrence, Ponce Pilate, daté de la dix-septième année de règne de Tibère, correspond à la date de la mise à mort supposée du Christ.
This prutah struck under Roman administration by the procurators of Judea, in this case, Pontius Pilate, dated from the seventeenth year of Tiberius' reign, corresponds to the date of the supposed death of Christ

Historical background

JUDAEA - ROMAN GOVERNORS

(9-62 AD)

After 6 AD when Herod Archelaus was banished, Augustus appointed governors to administer Judea of equestrian rank. Between 9 and 62, these procurators or prefects (under Claudius) minted small local coins (Plutahs). The best known of them is Pontius Pilate, governor from 26 to 36 who allowed Jesus to be condemned and executed. The last procurator to mint coins was Porcius Festus during the reign of Nero (59/60-62).
