Commentary

Agostin Barbarigo (1420-1501) est le 74e doge de Venise, en fonction de 1486 à sa mort en 1501.
La médaille a été commandée par Giovanni Francesco Barbarigo pour le Numismata Vicorum Illustrium ex Barbadica Gente Sperandio da Mantova (c.1425-1504). Sperandio était le fils d'un orfèvre et travailla dans des villes du nord de l'Italie, dont Venise où il mourut. Il était prolifique et maître de la médaille du portrait.
Agostin Barbarigo (1420-1501) was the 74th Doge of Venice, in office from 1486 until his death in 1501. The medal was commissioned by Giovanni Francesco Barbarigo for the Numismata Vicorum Illustrium ex Barbadica Gente Sperandio da Mantova (c.1425-1504). Sperandio was the son of a goldsmith and worked in cities throughout northern Italy, including Venice where he died. He was prolific and a master of the portrait medal.
