ITALY - SICILY - MESSINA - WILLIAM III

(1193-1194)

William III (1186-1198) was king of Sicily between 1193 and 1194. Son of Tancred of Lecce, he succeeded despite his young age to his older brother Roger III who died early. He was deposed and then taken prisoner following the invasion by the Swabian prince Henry VI of Hohenstaufen. The Norman barons and their supporters are massacred, ending the reign of the Norman Hauteville dynasty in Sicily..
