Obverse legend : ROGERIVS - COMES.

Obverse description : Comte de Hauteville à cheval à gauche, portant un étendard sur l’épaule droite.

Reverse

Reverse legend : PLVTIA - PIATIA - DEINCEPS.

Reverse description : Le triskele (ou la trinacria) emblème de la Sicile, représenté par trois jambes fléchies surmonté d’un élément indistinct.

Reverse translation : Plutia, Piatia ensuite !.

Commentary

Il s’agit d’une fonte en alliage de cuivre. La médaille avait été présentée pour la première fois dans une vente aux enchères publiques, Maison Varesi à Pavie en Italie, en Novembre 2007.
Roger de Hauteville, Grand comte de Sicile, dit le Normand, libérateur de la Sicile, vainquit et expulsa les musulmans et libéra la ville de Piazza Armerina. Cette médaille commémore cet événement de libération.

This is a copper alloy cast. The medal was first presented at a public auction, Maison Varesi in Pavia, Italy, in November 2007. Roger de Hauteville, Grand Count of Sicily, known as the Norman, liberator of Sicily, defeated and expelled the Muslims and liberated the town of Piazza Armerina. This medal commemorates this liberation event.
