Historical background

ITALY - PIEDMONT - COUNTY OF DESANA - HEIR APPARENT TIZZONE

(1583-1592)

The right to mint coins was granted to Ludwig II Tizzone (1510-1525) by Maximilian of Austria (1493-1519). The Counts of Desana minted until 1683, when the workshop was ceded to the Duke of Savoy, who closed it. Agostino (1559-1582) and Dauphin (1583-1598) Tizzone imitated the farthings of Louis II de Montpensier and the French royal farthings.
