After 1 year, 7 months and 30 days of pontificate, Pius VIII died on November 30, 1830. The Sede Vacante lasted from November 30, 1830 to February 2, 1831. The Carmelingian Cardinal Francesco Galeffi ensured the vacancy until the election of Mauro Cappellari della Colomba as Gregory XVI.
