ITALY - KINGDOM OF NAPLES - JOSEPH NAPOLEON

(30/03/1806-6/08/1808)

Joseph (1768-1844) was the eldest son of Charles Bonaparte (1746-1785) and Laetitia Ramolino (1750-1836) whom he married in 1764. They were the parents of twelve children, nine of whom survived. Joseph is Napoleon's older brother. A lawyer, he was ambassador to Rome and signed the treaties of Lunéville (1801) and Amiens (1802) as well as the Concordat (1801). Grand Elector in 1804, he was promoted to King of Naples in 1806 and remained so until 1808. He then became King of Spain (1808-1813). He emigrated to the United States (1815 to 1832 and 1837 to 1839), lived in England between 1832 and 1837 and in 1839-1841. He finally retired to Florence. He married Julie Clary in 1794, Désirée's sister, from whom he had three daughters..
