ITALY - DUCHY OF MILAN - GALEAZZO MARIA SFORZA

(1466-1476)

Galéas Marie Sforza, born in 1444 from the marriage of François Sforza and Blanche Marie Visconti, succeeded his father, who died in 1466 while he was in France in the service of Louis XI. He first married Dorothée de Gonzague, daughter of Louis, Marquis of Mantua then in second marriage, in 1468, Bonne de Savoie, daughter of Louis de Savoie. He exiled his mother to Cremona and ruled the Duchy of Milan as a tyrant. He reigned only ten years before being assassinated in 1476 while entering a church. His son, Jean-Galéas Sforza, succeeded him when he was only nine years old..
