Prise par les Français en 1797, Venise est cédée la même année à l’Autriche par le Traité de campo-Formio. Jusqu’en 1802, François II du Saint-Empire (François Ier d’Autriche) en devient le souverain.
Captured by the French in 1797, Venice was ceded to Austria the same year by the Treaty of Campo Formio. Until 1802, Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire (Francis I of Austria) became its sovereign.
