Commentary


Cette médaille fut distribuée par le gouvernement de Gênes aux membres de l’Institut Ligurien à l’occasion de la Fête de la souveraineté du peuple, célébrée le 14 juin 1797, second anniversaire de la Révolution de Gênes.
Cet exemplaire est cité dans l’ouvrage “Histoire métallique de Napoléon: ou, Recueil des médailles et des monnaies, qui ont été frappées depuis la première campagne de l'armée d'Italie jusqu'à son abdication en 1815, Volume 2” par Aubin Louis Millin, James Millingen (n°146, p52).
This medal was distributed by the government of Genoa to the members of the Ligurian Institute on the occasion of the Feast of the Sovereignty of the People, celebrated on June 14, 1797, the second anniversary of the Genoa Revolution. This example is cited in the work “Metallic History of Napoleon: or, Collection of medals and coins, which were struck since the first campaign of the army of Italy until his abdication in 1815, Volume 2” by Aubin Louis Millin, James Millingen (n°146, p52)

The Ligurian Republic was created in June 1797 after the conquest of the Republic of Genoa by the French commanded by General Bonaparte. In June 1805, this Ligurian Republic was annexed to the French Empire where it formed the departments of Apennines, Genoa and Montenotte.
