Commentary

La médaille célèbre le cinquantième anniversaire du premier congrès des scientifiques italiens, qui s'est tenu à Pise en 1839. Cet événement a également été largement commémoré à l'époque : à cette occasion, par exemple, l'inauguration du célèbre monument à Galilée par le sculpteur livournais Paolo Emilio Demi est commémorée.(c.f. The medal celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the first Congress of Italian Scientists, held in Pisa in 1839. This event was also widely commemorated at the time: on this occasion, for example, the inauguration of the famous monument to Galileo Galilei by the Livornese sculptor Paolo Emilio Demi is commemorated.
