Commentary

Grand bassin rond en porphyre rouge à socle carré, provenant de l'appartement Borgia au Vatican, que Léon XII avait donné avec une grande joie. Les modèles ornementaux correspondants ont été réalisés par le sculpteur Adamo Tadolini et ont été coulés et dorés dans l'atelier d'orfèvrerie Giuseppe Spagna. L'architecte Valadier a complété le décor en créant une balustrade avec des colonnes d'albâtre autour de la source, avec quatre petites et élégantes portes d'accès à la source.
Large round red porphyry basin with a square base, from the Borgia apartment in the Vatican, which Leo XII had given with great joy. The corresponding ornamental models were made by the sculptor Adamo Tadolini and were cast and gilded in the goldsmith workshop of Giuseppe Spagna. The architect Valadier completed the decoration by creating a balustrade with alabaster columns around the spring, with four small and elegant doors providing access to the spring.
