ITALY - PAPAL STATES - INNOCENT XII (Antonio Pignatelli)

Antoine Pignatelli (1615-1700) succeeds Alexander VIII (1689-1691) who had succeeded in having the Comtat Venaissin returned to him in 1690 by Louis XIV, who had seized it under the pontificate of Innocent XI (1676-1689) . Innocent XII was elected at age 76 after a five-month conclave and made peace with Louis XIV. He died on September 27, 1700.
