ITALY - EMILIA - PARMA - Alexander Farnese

(1586-1592)

He was born in Rome in 1545 from the union of Ottavio Farnese and Margaret of Austria (daughter of Emperor Charles V). He was brought to the court of his uncle, King Philip II of Spain. In 1565 he married Mary Portogallo. In 1578, he became governor of the Netherlands. Ardent defender of Catholics, he opposed the troops of Henry IV in 1590 and 1591. He died at Arras in 1592.
