Commentary


Guiseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) est un des pères du Risorgomento italien. En qualité de militaire, il participe de façon décisive à l’unification de l’Italie. Républicain convaincu, il s’allie pourtant à la Maison de Savoie pour reconquérir l’Italie méridionale. Il s’éteint en 1882 dans sa retraite de l’île de la Caprera au nord de la Sardaigne.
Guiseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) was one of the fathers of the Italian Risorgomento. As a soldier, he played a decisive role in the unification of Italy. A staunch republican, he nevertheless allied himself with the House of Savoy to reconquer southern Italy. He died in 1882 in his retreat on the island of Caprera, north of Sardinia.
