Théodore Herzl (1860-1904), journaliste, réunit le premier congrès sioniste à Bâle en 1897. Il fonde la Banque nationale juive (1898). Il prône la création d'un état juif, mais ne peut arriver à réunir la somme de 46 millions de francs demandée par le sultan.
Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), journalist, convened the first Zionist congress in Basel in 1897. He founded the Jewish National Bank (1898). He advocated the creation of a Jewish state, but was unable to raise the sum of 46 million francs requested by the Sultan.
