Historical background

ISAAC I KOMNENOS / COMNENUS

(1/09/1057-25/12/1059)

Issac founded a new dynasty which was to rule Byzantium intermittently for two centuries. A member of the military aristocracy, he got angry with the Church and had the Patriarch of Constantinople arrested and tried. The latter died before being tried and Isaac was overthrown by the people of Constantinople. He retired to a monastery.
